New Hampshire Race

Sunday is race #2 in the Chase and the race is in New Hampshire. Barb and I have been to this track twice...once with our friend Ted in 1997 and once with Henry Sr & Lizzy in 2009.

The pictures weren't that good from 1997 but there are a couple, back when both of us still had mustaches and Dale Sr was winning races. We spent a long weekend with Ted at their family camp while my parents watched the boys. They took them to many sites including Howe Caverns. Larry and Gerry took each of the kids on a RV trip at different times (years)...this was Stephanie's year. They also showed her some cool places that included caves. This was the trip that Stephanie infamously called me from halfway across the country and said "Dad this is just not working out and you have to come get me" at 11 years old! Something we all laugh about today but it all worked out in the end and she finished a fun trip.

In 2009 we went to the race after spending a week on vacation in Boston. We consider Boston one of the best vacations that we have ever been on. There are some great sites, history, food and plenty of walking...but those pictures will come in another POD down the road. At the end of the week Henry Sr. and Lizzy drove up and we went to dinner Saturday and the race on Sunday.

I am rambling a bit today but there are a couple more stories I want to share. Ted, Shawn and his wife Patty met us before the race and we all caught up on things. The race was good but a couple memories after the race is what stuck in my head. When we were leaving we had to walk past the helicopter pad and Jeff Gordan and his family were sitting there waiting while fans were yelling to him to sign some autographs which he wouldn't do. The next thing you know Jimmie Johnson drives up with his family and immediately jumped out and signed autographs till his helicopter came...maybe 15-20 minutes. Now those of you that know me know I think Jimmie Johnson is a clone (sorry Darlene) but since he did that my opinion of him went up a couple notches and now he is in the range of Anderson Cooper's boyfriend Kasey Kahn!

OK we finally made it to our car...BTW my poor Mom had a bad knee but she pushed through the entire day and never complained...and we were stuck in a terrible parking lot jam up. So as we were pulling out there was this young girl (in her 20's...I hope) standing on the side with some guys. They had a sign that said honk if you want to see my boobs...of course there was a lot of honking and she showed them every time. As we got closer and she just completed a show we heard her say "oh shit that's my husband in that car I have to go"!! She ran down about 5 cars and climbed in a car and proceeded to get a real lecture.

Well that's my thoughts for today and sorry it took so long. This part of the country is very nice with great weather, great people, great history, great food, great sites and should be on your bucket list of things to visit if you haven't already.
