Our friend Carol and her sister Cathy are here visiting this weekend. For those of you that have been around a while you know the story...for the rest of you I know some of you are going to find this hard to believe but the story you are about to hear is the whole truth and nothing but the truth.
Carol and I were lovers back in the spring of 1977. I consider her my first girlfriend and remember I only had 4 girlfriends including Barbara...I never was very popular with the girls. We did a ton together for 6 months or so and then she broke up with me.
Now in most cases that would be the end of the story but not with Carol because she has a true heart and a kind sole and is one of those rare people that won't give up on something she really cares about...me for example..LOL. So after she broke up with me she continued to demand that I stay friends with her. She was always completely honest with me and when she didn't like something I would do she would tell me...for example girlfriend #2!!
After high school we both went off to college and still kept in touch. I would visit her at school or she would visit me...I always looked forward to the visits because it was the only time I was able to sleep with a girl. Life continued on and I moved to Maryland but that didn't stop Carol...she came to visit me and as always we slept together. Soon I met Barbara...girlfriend #4...and Carol still demanded that we stay in touch...of course the sleeping together thing had to stop since Barbara wasn't in favor of it. Not sure why?
As life continued Barbara and I moved to Virginia Beach...guess what...nope you are wrong Carol didn't come visit...she now moved in with Barb and I. Now this is why I say that I married the greatest woman ever...how many of you ladies out there would let an old girlfriend move in with you?? Great times were had by all and when we bought our new house Carol even picked out her bedroom!
Well things changed and Carol got a job opportunity in Illinois and soon moved out. The move turned out great and she met her special person Joe Robertson. They soon married and had 2 kids of their own. While we didn't talk as much during those years we tried to talk at least once a year. As we got older and things calmed back down our phone calls picked up and we are now back to talking at least once a month. Carol also came to visit us in 2005 for the weekend and as usual we had a great time.
As some of you know I plan on living till 105 (if Rose Kennedy can do it so can Henry Hagadorn) and to really show you what kind of friend Carol is...she told me that if by some chance I don't make it she would ask Barbara for some of my ashes and carry them with her in the pocket of her robe...now that's a friend or some of you might say crazy...but I think it's because she wants to remember all those nights we slept together!!
Anyway a friendship that is rare and that we truly cherish. Oh by the way all that sleeping together and lovers stuff I made up just to make the story better! We were boyfriend & girlfriend in 1977 but only kissing and hand holding went on. Hope you didn't mind Carol.
