When I grew up my parents made us stay on the stairs on Christmas morning till they made sure Santa Claus came...well that's what they told us at least.
Once we had kids we quickly realized that this tactic gave us (parents) an opportunity to shake all those Christmas Eve cocktails out of our heads in somewhat peace & quiet so we immediately put this program in place! Thanks Mom & Dad!
Of course this was real torture for you kids which added to the fun.

Hahahaha - I did the same thing to my kids. Gave us a chance to turn all the lights on; get something to drink. BUT the best part was torturing the kids!
