Vacation-Day 9

Well kids today we went to the 2nd Nascar race of our trip...Las Vegas Motor Speedway...this track is the twin to the Charlotte track.  No school buses available to take so we just parked in the parking lot and since it started at noon we figured we would just take our time leaving...more to come on that thought!

I know what you're thinking yet another driver your mother is pulling for...we have to play the name game each week just to remember all the guys she wants to win!

This was one of the last shows for the Thunderbirds...the sequestration starts April 1st.

Our seats were a little lower then we usually get but Vegas is very proud of their seats and the upper seats are over $250 a piece as compared to most tracks that are usually around $125!  We could see everything around the track except for turn 2 from where we were.

Well it was a good race but all of us agreed that we liked the Phoenix track a little better.  Matt Kenseth won the race and it was his birthday so I guess that was ok...better then Stanica winning!

The race ended around 3pm local time and at about the same time there was an accident on the only major road out of the track.  A 31 year old women was weaving in and out of traffic driving down I-15 and weaved right into a tractor trailer.  The accident killed the woman and shut down the highway so the police closed all the exits out of the parking lots and wouldn't allow any race fans to leave!  After sitting for 3 hours we saw some people inching along so we did the same...long story short it took us 4 hours to get back to the hotel.  We heard on the news the next day that they didn't get all the fans out till almost 8pm...5 hours after the race ended.  The traffic gods have cursed Bruton Smith when it comes to traffic problems!

Oh yea one more thing...I know what the people in the costumes on Freemont St. do during the day on Sunday's....hang out in the Las Vegas Motor Speedway parking lot...there sure were some characters there!

  1. Just think 3 extra hours of close bonding time with each other...good thing I wasn't there (I would have had to use the bathroom)!

  2. I was surprised none of us did have to use the bathroom. Probably helped that we had no drinks in the car. Nice track but we did like Phoenix better. Even called my nephew Dolp to see if we could go another way but he was no help. That's okay Dolp...what would a cop know anyway :-) So happy Henry and Barb made the trip with us. Very nice two weeks.

  3. Sounds like you had a great time in Las Vegas and seeing the two races. Waiting 3 hours to get out of the parking lot was a downer, but at least you weren't involved in the accident.

Nice to see you have updated your map finally. LOL

Still waiting to hear from my great super grandsons with tickets to the NCAA finals in Atlanta. I guess they mailed me a letter. Waiting is hard to do as you found out getting out of the parking lot.
