Blaine & Darian Vist Part 2
Well kids as you know from yesterday's blog we went to Blaine & Darian's to pick-up the pool table on Friday...Sean recruited Jared, Lee and Taylor to help by promises of a night on the town in downtown Richmond.
I arrived about 7pm and Darian was out making Christmas decorations so Blaine and I went to eat dinner at Texas Roadhouse. Sean and the gang were about 3 hours behind me. They decided to tow a U-Haul trailer up and back since it was cheaper then doing a one way rental. They also decided to stay downtown rather then driving after a night on the town but they couldn't leave the U-Haul there so they brought it to Blaine's Friday night.
So a few sleepy eyed, swimmy feeling folks showed back up at around 10am to start on the project. None of us really knew what we were doing but Sean Google it and watched a video so we were set and ready! The pool table was upstairs in their bonus room so we had no choice but to take it apart.
I figured it would take about an hour to take it down and it took about 1.5 hours. Each time we unscrewed or unstapled something there was yet another task to do but overall it was fairly easy. The table is slate and it comes apart in three pieces. The slate was extremely heavy but the boys handled it with two people carrying. We brought a couch mattress and put the slate on it so it wouldn't bounce around and break on the trip back.
Overall it was a pretty easy job. On the way back Sean & Taylor decided that they were going to pay someone to re-felt it for them. The felt on the table was in good shape but the professionals will level the table too. The other thing that has to be done is lining the slate pieces up so there are no bumps between them. It appears that they use shims to do this. It is very close but as you know a fraction of a bump can throw off a ball. I think they are doing the right thing by just writing the check. Taylor was on the phone while we were traveling back and they found one company that would replace the felt with an NC State felt but once the guy said $1100 they quickly changed their minds. It sounds like it will be in the range of $250-$300 and they can have it done this week.
Anyway we got back to Sean & Taylor's with no issues and we were unloaded with in 30 minutes. Once again a whirlwind trip that was less then 24 hours with 10 of those hours on the road! This will make a great addition to their basement.

Darian recently lost her father and she had some of his belongings that she was trying to sell for the estate. One of which was some golf clubs. Her Dad had just bought a new set of Callaway's so she was selling those and his old set. Jared has been looking for a set and these were perfect for him. Blaine also gave Jared some wine glasses, folding chairs and a few other odds and ends!
Thanks again Blaine and Darian for all you did.
Remember Barney!
Awesome trip it sounds like..thank goodness for strong grandsons...yes Lee...you too. Looks like a nice pool table and also sounds like a good trip for Jared. Nice to have friends like Blaine. With your big bucks Sean...you should have gone for the NC State cover but Taylor keeps you in line:-) Glad you made it with no problems. Can't wait to see it when we come down.
