We went back to the drawing board and then decided that we would screen a section right off the kitchen and concrete in the section from the porch to the end of the house...then we tossed and turned for the last three years...yea you're right I was dragging my feet!
In September I told your mother that we would have it done before the spring of 2013 so we started to get estimates. We had a local company come out and we told him all the things that we wanted done...take the deck completely out and drop to ground level, give us a price on concrete and patio blocks along with a roof over the entire thing. When the price came back at $45,000 I said no way...again back to the drawing board!
We trimmed a little here, changed out our thoughts for the roof, added some things and negotiated a better price. From there we signed the papers and for tax purposes I didn't want to get started till after January 1st which was fine with them. Well a few weeks ago the contractor called me and they had a job that got pushed back till January and wanted to move ours up. Again I explained my tax concerns and he offered to help so we said ok!
All that being said the next 8 days I am going to bore you with the steps of the remodel. One because I know some of you are interested, two because I am behind on my POD's, three because I want it documented to show people and four I have nothing else to put on the POD!
So enjoy and stop by sometime to enjoy a cold beverage on our new patio! Today's POD is the original deck...I never realized how much we looked like Sanford & Son's until this project!
I kept the trash can, recycle can and lawn mower on the side of the deck

WOW sounds great. Can't wait to see the pictures and the final version! Now I will definitely have to come visit once you have a screened in porch so the bugs can't get to me!

Sanford & Son. I am surprised that your HOA didn't check your backyard and make you clean up that ugly mess sooner. Barbara may have headed off an ugly confrontation with the HOA enforcement division. I know how much you love those guys, so consider yourself lucky.
ReplyDeleteBefore anyone flames me on this, understand this is an inside joke between me and Henry.
Whew, I figured I'd never, ever get Henry to agree to this...then with the first bid...well....impossible! Hope you enjoy our transformation and can't wait for the christening party!! PARTY, yes, that's what I said, Henry!!! hehe I think it will have to be something like bring your own log...we can have a burning party. I'll supply the s'mores!
