Fishing at Santee

Well kids back in 2000 Sean, Jared, me and the Robinson's all went fishing on Santee which is a lake located in SC.  We went down the night before since we had to be there at daybreak.  Since there were so many of us we had to have two fishing guides.  One of the guides used to work for Merita and ran our Florence, SC plant...Captain Joe and the other was his friend...Captain Tomcat!

We split up and off we went on a very cool morning to catch some catfish...and maybe a Bass!

They drove us to their secret fishing hole and then they throw out these water parachutes which slows the drifting down.

Everyone caught plenty of fish

In most cases this would be the end of the story but not in this case!  As you know your mother and Catherine loved fried catfish so we brought our share to the lake and froze it.  Well Ryan was there that weekend and while shutting down the trailer he accidently shut off all the circuit breakers...that's right including the refrigerator!  Well two weeks later we were meeting at the lake and unfortunately I was the first to arrive...yup the freezer thawed out and fish juice drained out of the freezer and all over the floor!!  What a smelly mess!

  1. WOW - big fish! Did you cut the heads off and let them take it to school for show and tell like Dad use to do for us??

  2. That was the best catfish....at least what we were able to eat was! I think it's about time to get back to Santee or at least Gaston to get some more catfish! Especially since Stephanie & Shawn didn't bring home any Grouper! They sure did grow them big in Santee! ...and yes, I almost died, certainly did cry to loose all that catfish. The smell was awful, that's for sure! Especially when cleaning it all up

  3. I guess I was busy as I didn't see this POD. Great pictures. I do remember seeing them at one point but don't remember the refrigerator incident. What a shame to waste all those fish. Still a fun trip. Look how young all the Hagadorn and Robinson guys were. Cute then and now
