Disney Week-Day 1

Well kids in 1994 we spent the week in Florida doing all the attractions...Disney, Sea World, Kennedy Space Center, Nickelodeon and Universal.  It was a fun week but we went from morning till night to get it all covered.

As you know we were so "po" we couldn't even afford the "or" in poor so we had a tight budget.  We bought all the tickets from a discount store just north of Rocky Mount long before we went to spread out the cost.  Tickets for everything except the space center came to $1200 (I think).  We stayed at a Days Inn which was $40 a night but it had a bedroom and kitchen.  The parks generally opened at 10am so our plan was to eat breakfast at the hotel since you kids mostly ate cereal anyway then spend $100 a day on food...tight!  Well it worked great because by the time we got to the park you kids were so wound up you didn't want to eat.  Then about 1pm everyone wanted ice cream so we bought ice cream then back to the fun.  Around 4-5pm you started getting hungry so we ate a late lunch and by the time we left you were so tired that we didn't eat again!  Great plan till the last day but you will hear about that in another blog.

The parking lots were always packed but it didn't bother us because when you are the last ones to leave, it is easy to find your car...it is the only one left in the parking lot!!

Lion King was the big thing back then

One of the first things we did was take a ride on the Sky Ride to see the park.

20,000 leagues under the sea...sub was getting refurbished so we couldn't ride it

They also had these jumping water things all over some like this one and others in the ground

Jared sure did love Mickey Mouse

Anyway a fun week but I have been to Disney 4 times now and I do not plan on going again.  Great trip and certainly should be on your Bucket List to take your kids to.

  1. Only 4 times...we have been 14 times and I would go again but your dear old Dad said enough already :-) No place like Disney. It should be on everyone's bucket list

  2. The funniest thing about this post is 20,000 leagues. Back when I was a kid, we went to Disneyland and I remember wanting to go on the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea...well, it was too crowded, or maybe too expensive...they had the A-E rides back in the day!! As a result, I couldn't wait to do it this time in Disney World...for some reason I still hadn't done it even tho I had gone as a senior in high school. Imagine my dismay to find it was under repair this time!!! Oh well, I guess it just wasn't meant to be...or maybe I need to go again to finally get on the ride!
