Mom's Birthday Celebration

Well kids since we celebrated your mother's birthday last weekend with you guys I told her that we would go out for dinner and a movie on Saturday night.  Little did she know that I had another surprise planned.  We worked in the yard and the plan was to shower and leave around 4pm but she only knew we were going out not what we were doing.  Our chores took a little longer so we ended up leaving at 5pm...no worries.  Since time was a little bit tight I said pick between Sogo, Logan's or some famous Lexington BBQ...she choose Logan's.

At dinner I gave her a birthday card that had tickets to an Elton John concert.  I was a little nervous since your mother is more the hard rock Led Zeppelin kind of girl but since Elton is such a icon I thought she would want to see him (plus Zeppelin wasn't playing close by) and she was thrilled.

The concert was in Winston Salem in the same complex that Wake Forest plays football but not at the football stadium.  It was a pretty nice place and very easy to get in and out of.  Our seats were great almost directly in front of the stage.  Elton did a pretty good job but we both felt like he started off a little rough.  Benny and the Jets was his 2nd song and I could hardly understand the words but he worked the crowd and his voice got much better.  The concert lasted about 2 1/2 hours and before his encore he came out and signed things for the people in the front row which we have never seen any band/singer do before.

I wish I had more pictures to show you of the crowd...the age group was from 5-80, lots of goofy glasses, some hats, some scarfs and other Elton John things from over the years.  At one point your mother leaned over and said she had never seen so many grown men dance in public before and some of them probably shouldn't be dancing!

It seemed like we were closer then this picture shows

They had 2 big screens up so you could see everything pretty good...you can see one in the top left corner of the picture above

Fun night, tired drive home but certainly should be on you Bucket List!
