Spring Clean Up at Lake Gaston

Well kids I am sure you remember that having a 2nd place meant twice the work!  As much as we loved Lake Gaston every spring there was a list of chores that had to be done or things that had to be fixed.

The one I dreaded the most were the broken pipes.  When we closed the place up in the fall we would drain all the pipes to the best of our ability and then we even put antifreeze in them but each year we would end up with one broke...sometimes several leaks.  Luckily Trey Bulluck and his buddies would come over and help as long as we had some beer!

One January I went by the place coming back from a business trip to Virginia Beach to check on it and found a 4-5" limb that had fallen out of a tree and went right through the roof.  I'm not sure how long it was like that since we hadn't been there in a couple months.  Anyway I pulled it out and made a temporary fix out of some wood, bricks and a bucket in the house.

That spring we sealed...ok the boys sealed the roof.  Jared was 12 soon to be 13, Sean 14 and both a lot lighter then I was.

  1. My Favorite place on Earth!!! LAKE GASTON! We sure did have some wonderful times. The boys definitely had to put in their "labor of Love" with us each year, but the dividends paid back in spades!! Amazing, fantastic, wonderful, relaxing, beautiful, serene times!!

  2. Yes, but - - a Redskins shirt to wear to do the work??? A Redskins shirt???? Just kidding. The boys learned early to be hard workers. Can you spare them for a few days at the cabin????

  3. You had so many good memories...in fact all of us did at one time or another..but I agree, it is a lot of hard work to have a 2nd home. Just think of the good and that will keep you going.

  4. If we didn't have wives, we wouldn't have all these make work things to do for the things they made us buy. Like beer...no work to that at all.
