New Countertops

Well kids after the never ending harassment from Stephanie and Jared we finally decided to go ahead and replace the countertops and back splash.  We had the original stuff that the builder put in 13 years ago and except for the sink everything else seemed good to me...so yes yet another thing that we are replacing that really is still functional!

Anyway we did a lot of research and talked to 3 different companies and decided on granite.  We had a great sales person named Tracy and she helped your mother with some of the tougher decision making.  Once we narrowed it down to 2 choices they let us bring home a piece of each...we ended up going with the Sapphire Blue.

It is a pretty cool process and you have to actually go to the granite yard and pick the actual granite slat that you will get since every piece is a little different.

Because the granite is so heavy they had to install 4 braces to hold the bar up

This is a slow time of the year for them because no one likes to have the work done during the holiday's so they had a special going on that gave us a reduced price, an 18 gauge stainless steel sink and a free faucet!

Extremely heavy...4 Russian guys did the work

The sink is an under counter mount so after they put the silicone on they clamp it up through the drain using the long board you see across the countertop.

Yup my OCD was in high gear the last couple of weeks, of course I am still sticking to my story that your mother just has too much crap!

No before picture but this is where the toaster is

In the hallway we took out the coat rack and that brown cabinet and installed two 30" floor cabinets that match the kitchen cabinets.  Our plan is to put all the small appliances here...crock pot, blender, mixer and so on.  Hopefully it won't become a catch all!

We are very pleased with the way it turned out and the nice comments everyone made about it on Thanksgiving Day.

  1. It looks beautiful!!! Question - the counter goes OVER the sink? If so what happens if you have to replace the sink??

  2. Yes, Sandy, the counter goes over the sink. It's the way of the 2010's!! Haha We should NEVER have to replace the sink, if we do, then I hope the plumber getting under the sink doesn't show his crack!!
We're so pleased we did this and happy with this choice of granite. The other one was darker and more black and tan. It would have been too dark now that we see ours. Ours is a bit darker than we thought it would be, but not too dark. WE LOVE IT!!! We're really thrilled and stop to look at it all the time!! Merry Christmas, Happy Thanksgiving, Happy Birthday to us!!!

  3. Wow what a change and a awesome one at that. I love it. You sure do sound like your Dad Henry but Barbara did win out and you should be pleased. What a change and I love the cabinet in the hall. Looks great. You have to be pleased with all you have done the past couple of weeks. Look fabulous.

  4. It really does look beautiful! I really like the cabinet in the hall. I like the backsplash so much that I might have to look into doing that in our kitchen. :)
